You cannot live
without your liver - and you have only one. Thus: treat your liver
well!
Pablo Neruda (Nobel prize for literature 1971) described the function
of the liver the best:
Put less poetically:
- The liver filters whatever reaches the
circulation from the intestine including bacteria, drugs, environmental
toxins.
- The liver is a factory which produces virtually
all proteins such as albumin and clotting factors.
- The liver stores energy and vitamins
- The liver is a most important organ for
excretion. Thus, it removes bilirubin (the yellow dye which is
responsible for jaundice) and excess cholesterol.
