Our organism is constructed to survive at the edge of famine; the abundant availability (of often questionable quality) food in industrialized countries can lead us into catastrophy!

Fatty liver is a disease of industrialized countries:

In this study, fatty liver was sought by ultrasound in the whole population of two Italian towns. 20 % of all people had fatty liver; this increased to close to 100 % in over-weight patients drinking alcohol

To avoid fatty liver, we have to balance our checkbook. And in contrast to the checkbook we should favour expenses over intake. Some simple measures can avoid fatty liver. Some of these measures include:

  • Avoid 'stupid' calories such as peanuts with your apéritif, bread besides your meals, meals between meals, sugar in your coffee etc.
  • If you must drink alcohol drink wine (preferably red) but avoid beer and liquor
  • Keep to Meditarrean diet with lots of fresh vegetables, fruit, white meat and unsaturated fatty acids (olive oil)
  • Increase your mobility by walking rapidly for 30 - 45 minutes; it is desirable that you sweat and get out of breath during this.
